As one of the most respected and influential DJ’s in Australia with 20yrs experience under the (not so serious) moniker, Groove Terminator started out playing punk, hip hop and electro on his radio show in the early 80’s as a teenager then fell in love with acid and the early Chicago house sounds coinciding with the arrival of 1988’s Summer Of Love.
In the early 90’s he released 2 techno ep’s called Terminator Trax, which were flogged by the likes of Carl Cox and Jeff Mills, and eventually signing with Virgin/EMI in 1997, Groove Terminator has so far, released 2 full length artist albums, picking up several ARIA nominations including best male artist along the way. Other awards include Best Producer at the inaugural Australian Dance Music Awards even a GQ “Man Of The Year” nod has snuck in there.
Still known by some as Chili Hifly, whose first single ‘Is It Love?’ scored a U.S Billboard #1 in 2001, GT is now predominantly known for his collaboration with Sam La More (Gwen Stefani, Black Eyed Peas, Robbie Williams) from their little side project, turned major project called Tonite Only. Fusing contemporary dance floor aesthetic with a post‐modern pop sensibility, Tonite Only managed the amazing feat in 2006 of scoring two ARIA Club Chart number 1’s both of which remained there for over 3 months, and several other noteworthy releases and remixes for the likes of Sneaky Sound System, Tv Rock and The Similou which all became iconic electro anthems. Fast forward to 2011, and Tonite Only have returned once again to take out the number 1 spot on the Aria Club Charts with their single ‘We Run The Nite’, which spent no less than 11 consecutive weeks atop the charts, and clocked over 1 Million Youtube views!
Having already mixed compilations for Ministry of Sound under his Groove Terminator and Tonite Only monikers, Simon has most recently teamed up along with LA musician and DJ Chris Carter to create a West Coast Indie Electro Rock band JUMP JUMP DANCE DANCE, releasing the anthemic singles ‘Show Me The Night’, ‘Modern Eyes’, ‘City On Fire’ and the four-four-floor-burner ‘2.0’, which featured a collaboration version with the one and only Laidback Luke. With the band’s debut album released in July 2011, the duo have been burning out bandwidth on the blogosphere with their remixes of Pnau, MSTRKRFT, La Roux, Tim & Jean and The Aston Shuffle trending across aggregators and charting countless times on Hype Machine.
He is a man of many monikers. All of which create magical moments in music.
