Wax Motif News

05.03.2010 “Just got back from Good Vibes tour where I supported DJ Craze, DJ Z-trip and DJ Spinderella (Salt-n-Pepa) nationally. Thought I'd share a few stories. Craze said he loved mine and Tom Piper's track 808 and had been spinnin it a lot. Also, Armand Van Helden gave me props and said he had some of my records in his Serato and had seen me on blogs and stuff, I managed a little hotel room studio session with Chuckie and Spinderella said "damn that Wax Motif boy is cute" in front of a packed tent before she finished, I dont think I've ever been more embarrassed...”

Wax Motif

Bio

Music has always been at the forefront of what was important to Wax Motif. Growing up in the 90s meant he had a healthy appreciation of the styles of music that were shaping the decade – from the ever-evolving sounds of Techno and House to the 'up yours' attitude of Gangsta Rap. In an attempt to satisfy the musical beast that was growing inside him, Wax purchased a set of turntables at age 19 and embarked on a grand journey collecting music across a wide range of genres including Baltimore Club, Baile Funk, Breakbeat, Hip Hop, Drum n Bass, Electro. It was this choice, to not be pigeon-holed like so many other DJs, that has shaped him into the musician we see today.

Hailed by former Australian No. 1 DJ, Ajax as “the one to watch”, Wax Motif has a hectic schedule including regular gigs at some of the best clubs across Australia, as well as a weekly radio show, Frequency, on Sydney radio station, FBi 94.5 FM. Wax’s solo efforts have seen him support some of the most important acts in the scene today, including Jaimie Fanatic, Stanton Warriors, Sinden, Radioclit, A-trak, Kid Sister, Pase Rock, Tittsworth, The Autobots, Lady Waks, Sam Sparro, Stupid Fresh, Detboi, A-Skillz, Ctrl-Z, Surkin, Fred Falke, Azzido da Bass, Surkin and Treasure Fingers as well as a host of others.

No stranger to the festival circuit, Wax has performed at Good Vibrations and Playground Weekender and major events such as the MTV Music Awards, Apple iPhone launch and the InTheMix Top 50 Awards. With an invitation to join the Good Vibrations Australian tour in February 2010, Wax Motif has no plans of stopping.

Wax is also the official tour DJ for groundbreaking hip-hop crossover artist, Snob Scrilla. As part of Snob’s band he has supported seminal acts such as Public Enemy, Matisyahu, and PNAU, as well as touring with Parklife and playing the Homebake, Falls, Pete’s Ridge, Summer Break and Solar festivals.

Dedicating every spare minute to the studio, Wax’s original production work is blossoming. He won the Mad Decent/Nike/PRGz remix comp in 2009, and his latest “Conga Junk” EP gained critical acclaim from artists such as Brodinski, Kissy Sell Out, Breakbot, Shir Kahn, Larry T, Lee Mortimer, Greenmoney, and Jaimie Fanatic. With new releases and hot collaborations planned for 2010, you’ll be seeing a lot more of Wax Motif!
